OLYMP is one of the international pioneers in responsible wool use

Fashion brand impresses in an international comparison with high transparency, certified materials and measurable progress

The fashion company OLYMP Bezner KG (Ludwigsburg district, Baden-Württemberg, Germany) is one of the world’s leading brands when it comes to the use of mulesing-free wool. This is confirmed by a recent report by the global animal welfare organisation FOUR PAWS, which identifies OLYMP as a pioneer in the industry. OLYMP is particularly ahead of the curve when it comes to transparency, traceability and product labelling.

As part of the study “The suffering behind the labels”, 102 international fashion companies were evaluated by FOUR PAWS with regard to the implementation of their procurement guidelines, transparency in their communications, and the provision of consumer information in their online shops and in specialist retailers. OLYMP impressed in every area assessed and received top marks for labelling items with fibres certified according to the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) – both on the product itself and in its online shop.

“We’re delighted about being recognised, but we haven’t yet reached our goal”, emphasises Johann Trischberger, Chief Operating Officer of OLYMP Bezner KG. “98.7% of our wool already comes from mulesing-free sources. We are working hard to achieve a 100% elimination rate. Our commitment is intended to provide consumers with clear guidance and show that responsibility and fashion can go hand in hand.”

OLYMP has signed a corresponding declaration of intent against lamb mutilation from FOUR PAWS and, together with 140 other fashion brands, is calling on the Australian wool industry to end its practice of mulesing by 2030. This is a procedure in which skin is removed from the hindquarters of lambs without sufficient anaesthesia. The method, which has been heavily criticised worldwide, is incompatible with modern animal welfare standards.

Transparency is a central component of OLYMP’s corporate strategy. In its 2024 Sustainability Report, published in September 2025, the family-owned company discloses its activities in accordance with the requirements of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), including the data points recorded in accordance with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).

OLYMP intends to continue to consistently expand its range of more sustainable materials and transparency along the supply chain in the future. “Our goal is to make environmental responsibility measurable and at the same time live up to our brand promise in a credible way”, says Johann Trischberger.
