OLYMP is the test winner with the best non-iron white shirt

German news magazine “Stern” ranks OLYMP’s Luxor shirt in first place

The white shirt is a timeless classic, the epitome of modern business elegance and an indispensable staple in any wardrobe. The non-iron version makes it particularly easy to care for and ensures a consistently wrinkle-free appearance. According to the latest shirt test by the weekly magazine “Stern”, the finest examples in this category are from OLYMP. As to be expected, the fashion brand from Bietigheim-Bissingen (Ludwigsburg district, Baden-Württemberg, Germany) — internationally renowned for high-quality menswear — impressed in every test category.

The test included shirts from the competing brands Seidensticker, Walbusch, Profuomo, Charles Tyrwhitt, Uniqlo and OLYMP. All six models were in classic white, made of pure cotton and clearly labelled as non-iron. Experts assessed the shirts across various evaluation criteria, including overall impression, dimensional stability, fabric quality, seams, buttons, buttonholes, collars and cuffs. The shirts were then subjected to two days of everyday wear and tear in a wear test and assessed for feel on the skin, freedom of movement, odour formation, fit and wrinkle behaviour. Breathability was also carefully tested. The shirts were also washed five times according to a strict wash cycle and then dried again. During the test, typical stains were applied to the fabric, such as ballpoint pen ink, coffee and synthetic sweat, with each left to soak in for the appropriate duration.

In the opinion of Stern’s test editorial team, OLYMP delivered the best overall package with its Luxor business shirt. The shirt absorbed hardly any odours when worn, remained largely crease-free and impressed in the test with the highest degree of smoothness after repeated washing. It was also smart enough for formal occasions, basically offering everything a good shirt should deliver. The OLYMP Luxor shirt impressed in every category tested and scored particularly highly in terms of workmanship, comfort, whiteness retention and care, durability and non-iron properties, whilst also fully demonstrating its strengths in terms of wrinkle behaviour while being worn.

Mark Bezner, Owner and CEO of OLYMP, says: “For 75 years, OLYMP has stood for uncompromising quality in materials and workmanship, outstanding wearing comfort and care benefits, excellent value for money, a compelling fashion statement and responsible business practices. Not only in terms of shirts, but with all our products. Hence we are delighted by this outstanding test result.”

Proper care and attention play a key role in washing outcomes and garment durability. According to OLYMP’s recommendations, measures to reduce creasing and extend garment lifespan include turning shirts inside out and then tucking the collars and cuffs into the inside of the fully buttoned garments during washing or tumble drying. It is also crucial to load the washing drum with no more than six shirts per wash cycle, to use an appropriate detergent and programme, to set the water temperature correctly in accordance with the care label, and to spin at ideally 400 rpm. Once the wash cycle has finished, it is important to hang the shirts on hangers straightaway to dry. The collars, cuffs and button placket should also be smoothed out. This results in virtually unlimited freedom from ironing, even for the other OLYMP shirt ranges, which – due to their fashion-driven fabric compositions and construction details – are “merely” labelled as ‘easy-iron’ – and not, like the OLYMP Luxor shirt, clearly designated as non-iron and wrinkle-free. Thanks to the self-smoothing effect, any remaining creases smooth themselves out through body heat and tension while the shirt is being worn.
